James R. VanHorn, Sr., 82, of Palmer Twp., PA, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 in Easton Hospital.
James was born in Palmer Twp., PA, a son of the late Vernon and Kathryn (Poulton) VanHorn.
James was married to the former Kathryn Mancino with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage last November. He was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1953. James retired in 1999 as Captain of Palmer Twp., Municipal Police Department after 35 years of service. After retirement from the police department, he enjoyed working at Palmer pool.
James was a member of St. Paul’s III Lutheran Church of Palmer Twp.; FOP Le-Hampton Lodge 35; Brown & Lynch Post 9, and Safety First Volunteer Fire Company.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his sons James R. VanHorn Jr and wife JoAnn of Moore Twp., Robert VanHorn and wife Leslie of Saylorsburg; daughters Mary Kathryn Adams and husband Tom of Bushkill Twp., Beverly Brodhead and husband Tom of Palmer Twp.; a sister Dolores Keglovitz of Easton; grandchildren Tommy, Ashley, Jason, Aleana, Robert; great-grandchildren Leah, and Freddie. He is preceded in death by a brother Edward VanHorn.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in St. Paul’s III Lutheran Church, 2561 Newburg Road, Easton, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm in the church. Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton PA (Palmer Twp.)
