H. Eugene Harrison, 91, of Easton passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at St. Luke's Fountain Hill surrounded by his children. Born on March 15, 1932 in Little York, NJ, he was the son of the late J. Edward and Elizabeth May (Paul) Harrison.
Eugene became an Eagle Scout in 1947 and was the leader of the troop representing Warren County, NJ and Northampton County, PA attending the 1950 National Jamboree at Valley Forge, PA. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1950. During his years at Phillipsburg, he was a member of the 1949 undefeated, untied New Jersey State Co-Championship football team. He was named second team All State quarterback in 1949. Upon his graduation, Eugene continued his football career at Lafayette College playing quarterback all four years and continued to support the team throughout his life by never missing a Lafayette – Lehigh game. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in geology in 1954. After college, he was still a strong supporter of Lafayette College. He served as the treasurer of the alumni board of trustees from 1960 to 1972 and served on the class alumni affairs committee for more than 60 years.
In 1954, he married his lovely bride, Beatrice (DeFranco) with whom he shared 64 years before her passing in 2019. He served in the US Army as 1st Lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA. In 1958, Eugene began his 36-year career in the cement industry. He received many promotions throughout his career leading him to the position of Corporate VP of Labor Relations and Human Resources for RC Cement until his retirement at the end of 1994.
Upon his retirement, he was the golf coach for Notre Dame Green Pond High School for seven years during which he was named the 1999 Colonial League Golf Coach of the Year. He enjoyed many winters in Arizona playing golf and senior softball and was an active bocci ball player at Country Meadows. He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church and a former member of Northampton Country Club.
Eugene is survived by his children, Beth Fretz and husband, Bill; Jimi Harrison; Patti Spirk and husband, Francis; grandchildren, Billy Fretz and wife, Andrea; Todd Fretz and wife, Laura; Steven Spirk; Amelia Spirk; great grandchildren, Alyvia Fretz, Ella Fretz, and Addison Streuble.
In addition to his parents and wife, Eugene was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Suydam; brothers, James Harrison, and Charles Harrison.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service with Honor Guard at 4:00 pm at Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.)
