Name: Ambrose A. Coveleskie 85 of Palmer Twp., PA, passed away on Sunday, June 26th in Gracedale Nursing Home. Born: Ambrose was born on November 15, 1925, in Coal Twp., PA, a son of the late Frank and Mary Barna Coveleskie. Personal: Ambrose and his wife, the former Mildred Klebon, celebrated 63 years of marriage on February 8. He worked as a clothing machinery mechanic in many Lehigh Valley clothing factories, mostly at the former Jo-Ann Dress, later called the J & A Dress in Easton, PA for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a World War II Veteran and served with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces as a Petty Officer 1st Class. Serving aboard the landing craft U.S.S., LST 719, he spent two years island hopping taking part in combat against the enemy in the South Pacific, from the Solomon Islands, New Guinea Campaign, Liberation of the Philippine Islands, and finally the Occupation of Japan, for which he received the following awards: China Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Medal (with Asia clasp), Philippine Liberation Medal, Republic of China War Medal, and the Naval Reserve Medal. He was also awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and Commemorative Medal for participating in ground and surface combat against the enemy, and also three Bronze Stars. He also served for ten years in the Naval Reserve. Memberships: Ambrose was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the United States LST Association and the Pennsylvania LST Association with which he served on the Board of Directors for 10 years and was presented a citation for serving the organization and his fellow Amphibious Veterans with honor and distinction as a member of the Board of Directors, and it was presented to him at the Hazelton PA banquet on May 12, 2005 by their President. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Ambrose is survived by his son Michael Coveleskie and his wife Joyce of Lower Mt. Bethel Twp.; daughters Susan Coveleskie of Easton, Mary Bean and her husband Thomas of Pahrump, NV; grandchildren Abraham Bean of Easton, Benjamin Coveleskie of Lafayette, Louisiana; two great-grandchildren Sarah and Hannah Bean. Services: A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in St. Janes Church, 4049 Hartley Ave. Palmer Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30am in the church. Interment will be on Friday at 10:00 am in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
