Obituary

Name: Anthony S. Snipas , 89 , of Forks twp. , formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, May 14th, 2010 in St. Lukes Hospital- Allentown Campus. Born: Anthony was born on June 12th 1920 in Wilkes-Barre, PA a son of the late John V. and Antanina Volungavich Snipas. Personal: Anthony is preceded in death by his wife the former Frances Laconic. He worked for the federal government as a leader/supervisor of classified and prototype projects in the fabrication department at Tobyhanna Army Depot before his retirement in 1976. He served in the US Army during WWII as a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the 7th armored division landing on Omaha beach, battling through France and also participating in the paratroop landing in Holland. Anthony received three battle stars and the bronze star for heroic service. Memberships: He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Palmer Twp. Anthony was very devoted member of the Knights of Columbus Council 302 and the Bishop Hafey 4th degree assembly both of Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Church in Wilkes-Barre where he instituted and over saw the Altar server program which was responsible for awarding many academic scholarships in the Wyoming Valley Region. He was a 50 year member of the diocesan Catholic laymans retreat league where he served as president for three terms. Survivors: Anthony is survived by his sons Anthony A. Snipas of Allentown, Robert J. Snipas and his wife Evelyn of Wapwallopen, PA; daughters Loraine Snipas of Philadelphia, Donna Koscinski and husband William of Forks Twp.; Grandchildren Michael, Christina and Matthew Snipas, Patty and William Koscinski III and great grandson Ethan. He is preceded in death by a sister Nellie Siedlecki and a grandson Robert Snipas. Services: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday 9:30 am 10:30 am in St Janes Church 4049 Hartley Ave Easton (Palmer Twp) PA and also 1:15 pm 1:45 pm in the chapel of Holy Trinity Cemetery in Bear Creek PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 am in St Janes Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morello funeral home Inc. 3720 Nicholas St. Easton Pa 18045.
