Obituary

Name: Anthony J. (Tony T.) Tumminello of Easton died peacefully at home surrounded by his children on Saturday, April 14. Born: Born November 27, 1919, Tony was the son of the late Salvatore and Sebastiana Maglio Tumminello. Personal: Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Yolanda C. Tomaino. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together before her passing in January 2008. Tony attended Easton High School. He served in the Army during WWII from 1942-1945 in the 7th Armored Division Lucky 7 under Gen. George Patton, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge. Up until his death, he continued to attend yearly reunions with the survivors of the Lucky 7. Tony retired from the City of Easton Water Department, serving as President of the Easton City Employees Union Local 447, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. After retiring from the City, he served as a Court Officer for U.S. Circuit Court Judge Franklin Van Antwerpen when he served as Northampton County Judge. Tony was also a Court Officer for Judges Stephen Baratta and Alfred T. Williams. He retired from the Northampton County Court House at the age of 85. Memberships: Tony was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, where he served as usher and attended daily mass until his death. He was active in all church functions. He was chairman of the first Festa Italiana of the church. Tony was past President of the Holy Name Society and was named Man of the Year in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 345. He was a devoted member of the Holy Cross Society, serving as Chairman and Trustee; at the time of his death, he was the oldest member. Tony was also an affiliate of the Angelics of St. Paul, a volunteer at St. Francis Friary, a member of the Good Fellows of Northampton County and a former Judge of Elections for the 7th Ward in Easton. Survivors: Tony is survived by his son Anthony S. Tumminello, with whom he resided; daughters Diane T. and her husband Albert V. Purdy of Williams Twp., and Linda Y. Kharma of Lower Saucon Twp.; daughter-in-law Mary Sue Baurkot Tumminello of Bethlehem Twp.; and grandchildren SSG Albert A. Purdy and wife Alexia stationed with the U.S. Army in Ft. Lee, Virginia, William N. Purdy of MD, and Anthony G. and Ava Marie Tumminello of Bethlehem Twp. He is preceded in death by brothers Antonino who died in infancy and Nicholas A. Tumminello and sisters Nicolina Tumminello, Grazia Tumminello, Sadie C. DeLuca, Josephine Frinzi, Mary Nigrone and Bessie LaRizzio. Services: Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with Holy Cross services at 7:00 PM in the Morello Funeral Home, Inc, 3720 Nicholas Street, Palmer Twp. An additional calling hour will be held on Wednesday, 8:15 am until 9:15 am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 9th and Lehigh Streets in Easton. Interment will immediately follow in St. Anthonys Cemetery.
