Obituary

Barbara Jean (Ornato) Quick passed away at home on November 19, 2024 after a brief battle with metastatic lung cancer. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan on July 7, 1943 to Mario Ornato and Josephine Mazorowicz and was the third of four sisters. She grew up in a closeknit, multi-ethnic neighborhood with immigrant families from Italy, Poland, the Middle East, and more -- many of whom worked for Ford Motor Company, including her father. That melting pot created many fond memories and instilled in her a lifelong love of ethnic cuisine. She graduated from Fordson High School in 1961 (go Tractors!) where she played a bunch of sports and attended many dances. She briefly attended Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn where she studied to be a secretary though she lacked the typing speed of her oldest sister Delores. Despite her lackluster typing and shorthand skills, she was hired as a secretary at Dun & Bradstreet in Detroit where she would meet her future husband and love of her life, Robert Leroy Quick. First though, she had her heart broken after a brief marriage that ended in an annulment.

Afterward, Barbara lived her best single girl life as a working woman with an incredible wardrobe (much of which she made herself) and a convertible Corvette. She worked as a ticket agent for American Airlines at Detroit Metro Airport during the heyday of Motown and met many of the greats including Stevie Wonder. She loved to regale people with stories of her time at DTW back when flying was an event in itself. She made many incredible friends and traveled the world. She reconnected with her former coworker turned friend Robert who was then single after his own first marriage ended. Their whirlwind courtship took them traveling from Italy to Mexico to Alaska where they honeymooned after marrying on March 5, 1972. The first of their two daughters was born the next year and then their second three years later. Robert's job with D & B moved them around the country from Detroit to Dallas to Chicago to New Jersey back to Dallas and finally to Pennsylvania where they settled in Bethlehem Township. While her daughters were growing up, she worked from home in the textile industry and owned a successful crafting business where she sold beautiful dolls, Christmas ornaments, and more. Her creativity and skill with a sewing machine and crochet hook has wowed people for decades and she was thrilled when "crafting" and "DIY" came back into fashion in the past few years and her creations were once again in high demand especially among her teenage granddaughters and their friends which delighted her to no end.

When her youngest daughter was in high school, Barbara decided to once again work outside the home and got a job as a telemarketer at American Telecom in Bethlehem before working her way up to Quality Assurance Manager before retiring. Barbara was a breast cancer survivor who beat the disease in 2009 and went on to enjoy a quiet but deeply fulfilling retirement with Bob. She enjoyed crocheting, crosswords and logic/math puzzles, antiquing with Bob, reading (and kept a computerized spreadsheet of the books she read), cooking, and making things for her family from gorgeous heirloom quality blankets to beloved Christmas pajamas for her grandkids to yummy food. After her beloved Bob passed away in 2019, Barbara started practicing yoga which brought her a new group of friends and much peace. She loved animals and had many dogs and cats during her life. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds and was happiest reading a book and drinking a glass of wine with a wide-open water view while on vacation with her family. She was deeply proud of her daughters and grandkids.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Delores Oranto Meyers (and husband Bill) and Donna Ornato Goldie (and husband John), and her husband Robert Leroy Quick. She is survived by her baby sister Debra Ornato Kleszcz (and husband David); daughters Jodi Quick Schell (and husband Joseph "Chip") and Jacki Quick Russo (and husband Mike), four adored and lovingly spoiled grandchildren Agia, Amari, Grayson, and Ayden; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and her cherished cat Brandi.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) Online condolences may be offered at www.morellofuneralhome.com
