Carl Freeman Hess died on March 8, 2024, at the age of 93, at home, in Easton, PA. He was born on September 12, 1930, to Warren Hess and Beatrice (Skidmore) Hess. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alba (Merletti) Hess, and by a daughter, Carla (Alan Kirkeng), and a son, Michael (Kim); his daughter Diana died in 1983 while serving in the Peace Corps. He is also survived by two beloved grandsons, Drew and Lucas Hess, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three sisters, Pauline Frederick, Gladys Adkins, and Dorothy Bullman.

Carl graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1948 and was honorably discharged after serving in the US Army. Carl was a union sheet metal worker (Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 19) and he partnered with his father-in-law, Guido Merletti, and his brother-in-law, Richard Merletti, at their Tri-City Plumbing and Heating mechanical contracting business. He served on the condo board of Lake Clarke Gardens in West Palm Beach, FL, including serving as President of the Board, and on the condo Board of Glenmoor Community in Easton, PA, on the architectural committee. He was a volunteer for many years at Joseph H. Firth Youth Center, where he was president of the Youth Center board and coached the girls' basketball team. His pastimes included reading voraciously, playing pool, golfing as frequently as possible, and going to watch his grandsons play sports.
