Obituary

Chandradevi Ram Cumarasamy (Ranganathan) 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17th surrounded by the serene Pocono Mountains and her loved ones.

Chandra was born on September 23, 1942 in Tellippalai, Jaffna, Sri Lanka to Ranganathan and Pushparani. She was the fourth oldest of nine siblings: Ranganayaki, Lakshminathan, Loganayaki, Sathianathan, Rohinidevi, Sivanathan, Jeganathan, and Gowridevi. Chandra cherished her large and lively family, and found great joy not only in the company of her siblings but also in bonding with their spouses.

She married Ramanthan Cumarasmy. on December 1, 1963. Together, they raised two loving daughters, Mrinalini and Dharini. As a family, they shared a deep appreciation for the arts and grew in strength and resilience as they journeyed through life- beginning in Sri Lanka, moving to Chennai, India, and eventually establishing new roots in the United States. Their family grew with the additions of two son-in laws Ramesh and Dharmarajan. And finally, four grandchildren - Akshara, Aneeshwar, Vishnoo, and Akshay - who brought light and laughter into her life, filling her days with humor, warmth, and no shortage of interesting happenings.

In addition, Chandra had a fond appreciation for the joys which brought a sense of childlike delight and wonder to her days. This included a deep pleasure for reading books and magazines, collecting sarees, and being attuned to Indian news and pop culture. She was known for her confidence, sharp intellect, and unwavering preference for cleanliness in every aspect of life.

Another factor of family life that brought her a great deal of happiness was bonding with her husband's 13 siblings and respective families as the Cumarsamy clan grew: Rukmini Rasiah, Gopal Cumarsamy, Annalakshmi Ambalavanar, Durai Cumarsamy, Krishna Cumarsamy, Narayani Sabaratnam, Viji Cumarsamy, Ranga Cumarsamy, Pathi Cumarsamy, Sathyabama Rajalingam, Thripurasunthari Yoganantham, and Janakalakshmi Rajamohan, along with their spouses.
