Christopher Christy J. Amato, 98, of Easton, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in his daughters home.
Christy was born in Easton, PA, a son of the late Pietro and Antonina (Riville) Amato.
Christy was married to the former Dorothy Dimmis, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage last February 15. He was a graduate of Easton High School, class of 1937. He served as a T/Corporal in the US Army Signal Corps., during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. Christy retired in 1984 from Acme Markets as a meat cutter and manager after 37 years. He was awarded the prestigious Danny Hatch Award in 2015 by Lafayette College for loyalty and support of Lafayette athletics. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid Phillies fan who attended games at all National League Baseball parks and followed many local sports.
Christy was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, the Union Steward for Amalgamated Meat cutters and Butcher Workmen, a member of Friends of Lafayette Basketball, and the Varsity E Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Order of Fleas.
In addition to his wife, Christy is survived by a son Peter Amato of Bethlehem Twp.; daughters Bonnie and husband Wayne Stocker, Tina and husband Dan Frederick of Allentown, Lori Ernst and husband Michael of Williams Twp.; grandchildren Michael Amato, Melanie Brady, Elena Neith, Justin Ernst; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a brother Anthony Amato; his sisters Sadie Amato and Concetta Cappelle.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Saturday from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & Lehigh Streets, Easton, PA. Interment will be in St. Anthonys Cemetery, Williams Twp.
