Obituary

Clayton R. Gum, 89, of Wilson Boro, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in St. Lukes Hospital Anderson Campus. Born: Clayton was born in Easton, PA, a son of the late Clayton L. and Virginia E. (Wilhelm) Gum. Personal: Clayton and his wife the former Helen Fassl celebrated 67 years of marriage last April 20. He was a math teacher in the Alpha School District early in his career from 1962-1982, and later retired as Building Principal. He was a graduate of Easton High School, class of 1942, Kutztown University in 1950 with a BS in Education, Lehigh University in 1956 with his Masters in Education. He volunteered as an assistant baseball coach for 13 years at Lafayette College. He was a die-hard Philadelphia baseball fan. He was a member of the American Legion, Shriners International Pomp Council No. 20, Hugh de Paynes Commandry No. 19, Knights Templar, and Forks of The Delaware Shrine Club where he served as President. Clayton served in the US Navy from 1942-1946 on board the USS Vestal repair ship during World War II. Memberships: Clayton was a member of New Creation UCC Church in Palmer Twp. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Clayton is survived by step-sisters Ilene Sanguinito of Easton, Alice Mammana of Williams Twp., and a step-niece Kathleen Reilly of Palmerton, PA. Services: Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also Saturday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) followed by a funeral service at Noon in New Creation Church, 3730 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). Interment will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp. Memorial Contributions: Contributions in Claytons memory can be made to American Cancer Society, Lehigh Valley Unit, 3893 Adler Place, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
