Obituary

Dorothy E. Amato, 93, of Easton passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 in her daughter Bonnie's home.

Dorothy was born in Easton on June 1, 1925.  She was the daughter of the late Steve and Anna (Thompson) Dimmis.

Dorothy was married to the late Christopher "Christy" Amato, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 2017. She was a 1942 graduate of Easton High School and a retired stenographer secretary for the former U.S. Employment Service and for the Selective Service System, both in Easton and later in several other offices. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Dorothy enjoyed writing rhymes and poems for all occasions and solving word puzzles. She especially enjoyed playing Scrabble with her children.  She was a strict grammarian, liked to decipher cryptogram codes, jumble word puzzles along with crosswords. Her reference books were a treasure trove of information and continued to expand her love of knowledge.

Dorothy is survived by a son Peter Amato of Bethlehem Twp.; daughters Bonnie and husband Wayne Stocker of Bethlehem, Tina and husband Dan Frederick of Allentown, Lori and husband Michael Ernst of Williams Twp.; grandchildren Michael Amato, Melanie Brady, Elena Neith, Justin Ernst and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marion Schaffer Day and Anita Hoffman and a brother Anthony Crispino. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a sister Kathryn Pappas.

Calling hours will be held on Friday August 3 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Williams Twp.
