Obituary

Edith E. Kostura passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 92 years old into the waiting arms of her parents and brother while at Manor Care, Easton, PA.  Edith was born on September 11, 1927, in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late James Kostura, Sr. and Clara (Szekeres) Kostura, of Easton.  She also had a brother, James Kostura, Jr., Palmer Township, who recently passed away in July, 2020.

As a young girl, she moved with her parents from Newark, NJ to Williams Township, Easton to the family farm where she lived most of her childhood.  She started her education in a one-room school house; (Fairview School) then attended Shull Jr. High School and was a graduate of Easton High School, class of 1945.

After graduation she moved from the farm in Williams Township; with her mother and brother to the West Ward on Washington St. in Easton, until 1935; where she resided until 2001.  Her last residence was at Fayette Ct., Palmer Township, before residing at Manor Care.

After graduation she attended Churchman's Business College.  She was employed by the James River Corp.-American Can Co.-Dixie Cup for 45 years.  She was a lifetime member of United Paper Workers International Union, Local #412 and served as Recording Secretary for Local #412 from 1974 to 1992.  She voluntarily worked past that date, for many years, helping past employees answer any questions they might have had regarding their life insurance, pension and retirement.  She became a walking encyclopedia for many of her friends who retired from "The Dixie" as they referred to it.

She also became a phone volunteer for The Crime Victim's Council, in Easton for 10 years.  She was of the Christian Faith and attended many special occasions with her brother's family, at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church, Palmer Township, where they were parishioners.  She loved supporting her nieces and nephews in their school and church activities.  She had so many friends throughout her lifetime; who will miss her dearly.  She was loved not only by them; but especially loved by her family; who also referred to her as Aunt Edie, the matriarch of their family.  Her most famous "KIEFFLE" recipe (which she made every Christmas) was passed down to her nieces.  Christmas Eve will not be the same without them.

Survivors: Sister-in-law, Jane Finelli Kostura of Palmer Township; nieces, Susan J. Kostura and her partner Mark Neetz of Fogelsville, Mary Ann Kostura and her partner James Carhart of Bethlehem, Nicole B. Hockenberry and her husband Mark of Nazareth; nephews, James C. Kostura and his wife Elizabeth of Bangor, James Kostura III and his wife Holly of Kintnersville; great nephews, Joshua Appleman in FL, Zachary Davis and his wife Becca of Phoenixville, Alan T.
