Obituary

Eloise Cecile Foreman was born, the second oldest of five siblings, to Fred and Ella Gebhart (Schreckenstein), on October 17, 1940, at home with the assistance of the town doctor, in Lyndhurst, NJ.  Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Frelinghuysen township and she graduated from Blairstown High School, where she was involved in many school clubs and activities.  She then went on to become a Registered Nurse and graduate with her diploma from Somerset School of Nursing.  Ellie, as she was known to her friends, was extremely patriotic and joined the Navy in 1962 during the Vietnam War.  She was very proud of her position as Lieutenant Junior Grade Nurse and remembered her time in the Navy fondly throughout her long and rewarding career.  The Navy is also where she met the father of her three children and future business partner, I. Joel Foreman.

During their marriage, they had much fun together, taking many trips all over the world and singing together in a folk band.  Although she enjoyed the band, her true love was opera, as she was a lyric soprano and was told that had she started training earlier in her life, she could have surpassed Pavarotti.  Not long out of the Navy, in their mid-twenties, they started Forest Manor Health Care Center, where they lived and worked.  It began with 12 beds and with much hard work, grew into a very successful, 42 bed nursing home.  While developing the business with her husband and mothering three children under the age of 5, she graduated from Centenary College with a BA in Liberal Arts.  After 18 years, her marriage ended and Ellie left her position as owner and administrator for other opportunities in nursing.

She loved and worked in almost every type of nursing, but was especially fond of Surgery, Psychiatry and Geriatrics.  She mostly worked in hospitals and nursing homes, but no matter where she worked and what her position was, she always helped where it was needed.  Everyone loved working with Ellie and when she was supervisor and needed a shift covered, no one could say no to her.  She made every staff member feel needed and appreciated.  She made sure all of her staff knew they were important to her and she cherished them.  Not only was the staff member on her mind and in her heart, but their whole family was.  One of her favorite places she worked was Hagedorn State Psychiatric Hospital.  It had geriatrics and psychiatry, her favorites.  She loved the work and the staff.  Her favorite times were the snowstorms, especially the blizzards.  She would pack her bag and arrive at the hospital well before the storm, so she could start preparing.  She blew up air mattresses, secured blankets and pillows from the laundry, scoured the kitchen for food and delivered it to all the units, she created a "boys dorm" and "girls dorm" for the staff who stayed the duration of the storm and needed to sleep.  She loved the togetherness, the camaraderie and the teamwork.

In addition to being a nurse, she was also a grandma.  When her oldest, Michelle, had her first baby, Sarah, she stepped away from nursing, so that she could watch her while Michelle worked.  When Sarah started first grade, Ellie said, "well, Sarah doesn't need me anymore and I can't find a boyfriend, so I might as well go back to work".  So, that is what she did and this time, she joined a nursing agency.  The agency had mostly nursing home work for her, which she was very happy about.  She hadn't gone back full time, though, since her top priority was her grandchildren and she spent every minute that she could, with them.  When she wasn't with them, she frequently stated, "I miss my babies, I need to see my babies".  Again, while working and caring for children, she went back to school, but this time was to obtain her MSN and MBA concomitantly.  She loved school and education very much and was talking about going back for her doctorate shortly before her passing.  With everything she had done in her life, her children and grandchildren were her greatest accomplishments in her eyes.

She is survived by her children, Michelle J. Kraemer (Foreman) of Wilson, PA, Eric A. Foreman and his wife, Molly, of Fairfax, VT and Rebeccah Kurt (Foreman) and her husband Nuri, of Palmer Township, PA.  She had 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Grace and Matthew Kraemer, Benjamin and Elizabeth Foreman, and Beyza and Lina Kurt.  She is also predeceased by her brother, Frederick Gebhart and survived by her two other brothers, Richard Gebhart and his wife, Sharon and Warren Gebhart and his wife, Fran, her sister, Jeanne Aspinall (Gebhart), and her nephews, Doug Gebhart and his wife, Sandee, Matt Gebhart, Josh Gebhart and his wife, Trish, and Richard Aspinall and his wife, Asia, as well as great nieces and nephews.  During her last days, she was surrounded by all of her family and their love for her.  She is now in heaven, dancing with Fred and Ginger, always having enough light to crochet, never losing her reading glasses and not a chin hair in sight.
