Ernest “Ernie” DePaul, Sr., a deeply loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on April 2, 2026, at Country Meadows, Bethlehem, PA. Born on July 12, 1928, in Easton, PA, a son of the late Daniel and Mary (Figlio) DePaul. Ernie was a true gentleman and devoted family man, always putting the needs of others before his own. His love and kindness were felt by the many hearts that he touched.

He was a graduate of Easton Area High School class of 1946. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army as Sergeant of the Guard (A Troop, 12th Calvary Regiment) in Yokohama, Japan. Upon returning from Japan in 1948, Ernie remained in California where he attended Business School. He later took night classes at Lafayette College to further his career in banking. Ernie was a devoted employee of Lafayette (now Fulton) Bank for a total of 40 years, starting as a teller and advancing to Vice President of Loans. Ernie was a long-time resident of Palmer Township, where he started his second career as Manager of May’s Men’s Store in the Palmer Park Mall. After retiring at age 65, he returned to Lafayette Bank as a courier, retiring at age 87. Ernie enjoyed serving and was well-known and beloved by his customers, whom he so caringly helped and always strived to put a smile on their faces with his every encounter.

Ernie was an avid bowler, Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. His free time was spent working in his yard, tending to his perfectly shaped bushes and spending time with family. His family was everything to him. Ernie was a faithful member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Easton, PA.

He is survived by his son, David DePaul (Sarah); Daughter, Lorraine Serencsits (Mark); and daughter-in-law, Maryann DePaul. He was the proud grandfather to Justin DePaul (Jessica), Megan DePaul, Adam DePaul, Renee Serencsits (Sarah) and Brian Serencsits (Kavya). Ernie was also very proud of his two great grandsons, Lucas and William DePaul. He is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Connie DePaul, Frances Attinella and Barbara Attinella, and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

He is predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Teresa “Tess” (Attinella) DePaul, and son, Ernest “Ernie” DePaul, Jr. Ernie is also predeceased by six brothers, Mandes, Thomas, Philip, Nick, Roy, and, Mike; and four sisters, Jennie Stout, Lucy DeCola, Gloria Fimiano and Geraldine Cappellano.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) An additional calling hour will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA 18045. Entombment will follow at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Road, Easton, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ernie’s name may be made to may be made to St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA 18045 or to the National Kidney Foundation Finance Department, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
