Obituary

Name: Ernest (Ernie) Poerksen, 77, of Bethlehem Township, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2014 while surrounded by his loving family. Born: Ernie was born in Jersey City, NJ, the only child of the late Ernest and Amanda (Frommer) Poerksen. Personal: Ernie was married to the former Rosemary McManus and celebrated 53 years of marriage last April 8. He worked in sales for Keuffel & Esser (K&E) for 32 years, and then worked for Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, NJ, for 12 years until his retirement in 1998. Ernie had a friendly personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and had a great love for cats. He was an avid sports fan, often cheering on Penn States football team, the NY Giants, the Baltimore Orioles, and his grandchildren at their sporting activities and musical concerts. He also enjoyed trips to the Jersey Shore and Bermuda, and always had a special love for his home town Hoboken, NJ. Memberships: Ernie was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bethlehem as well as the Bethlehem Township Autumn Club. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by his son Michael Poerksen and wife Penny of Ashburn, VA; daughter Sheri Poerksen Eichlin and husband David of Bethlehem Township, PA; grandchildren Ashley, Christopher, Hunter, and Andrew; sister-in-law Marie McManus of Boynton Beach, FL; dear friends Mary and John Kreuter of Altamonte Springs, FL. Services: Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) followed by a service at 11:30 am in the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Memorial Contributions: In addition to flowers, contributions in Ernies memory may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 3219 Santee Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18020 or to St. Lukes Hospice House, 2455 Black River Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18015.
