Eve Wegener

Eve Wegener, 66, of Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Eve was born on August 23, 1960, in Manhasset, New York, the daughter of the late Selwyn and Vita Newman Cowan. After early childhood in southern California, Eve grew up in Pines Lake, New Jersey.

Eve earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Hartford, graduating Summa cum Laude with a degree in Politics and Government.

Eve put her education to work at the Connecticut Citizen Action Group (CCAG) where she helped supervise field canvass and community organizing activities throughout Connecticut. Eve became Financial Director of Citizen Action of New York and moved to Albany, New York, living in the Capital District for over 30 years.

Later in her career, Eve worked in sales for R.H. Donnelley/Bell Atlantic, which became part of Verizon Information Services where she was recognized as Rookie of the Year and was consistently ranked at or among the top sales representatives locally, regionally, and nationally.

While managing a million-dollar sales portfolio, Eve never abandoned her passion for fairness and played a significant role in unionizing the sales force at Verizon under the Communication Workers of America.

While fighting for fairness was a passion, nothing was more important to Eve than her family. She is survived by her husband, Tom Wegener; her sons, Ben Isaac Wegener (and his wife, Jaclyn Lazarus) of Metuchen, New Jersey, and Noah Daniel Wegener (and his fiancée, Lydia Bashor) of Amherst, New York; and her grandchildren, Levi and Lily.

She is also survived by her sister, Lise Grossman of New Jersey, and her brother, Adam Cowan of New Jersey, her nieces and nephews, Sara Gershkovich, née, Grossman, Lio Grossman, Alana Norber, née, Cowan, and Aaron Cowan. Eve is survived by a loving extended family including her mother-in-law, Viola Stendardi.

Throughout her years in the Capital District, Eve was an active member of Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady, New York and served on the Board.
