Obituary

Floyd Ross of Hellertown passed away on July 14, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  He was lovingly cared for through his illness by his wife, Judy Miller, and died in her arms and surrounded by family.  He was 88 years old.

Born April 16, 1935, in the fertile Annapolis Valley region of Nova Scotia, he was the son of George and Lillian (Killam) Ross.  He graduated from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada with degrees in electrical engineering and physics and moved to the States shortly after graduation to begin a career with Univac, later Unisys. He spent his entire career with that company and spent years working with standards of fiber optic technology.

He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Naomi (Dungan) Ross and is survived by their three daughters, Julie (Jeff) Salabritas of Marlton NJ, Melodie (Joe) Shea of Philadelphia, PA and Lisa (Paul) Wilson of Wycombe, PA. He will be missed by his cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey, Laura, Georgia, Alexis, Douglas, Caitlin, Ross and Gabriel as well as his 14 great-grandchildren. Floyd is also survived by Judith's children, Christopher (Jessica) Miller of Swarthmore, PA and Stefanie (Guy) Saxton of Riegelsville, PA and their families. He was pre-deceased by his son, Gregory, his sister, Enid (Ron) Lane of Hillsborough, NB, and Judith's son, Gregory Miller.

Throughout his life, Floyd marveled that a man from such humble and rural beginnings could grow up to travel the world.  In recent years, modern technology allowed him to reconnect with his Canadian cousins. Although he was fiercely proud of his Canadian roots and Irish/Scottish heritage, he was honored to become an American citizen in his early 60's in a ceremony attended by his entire family.

He enjoyed family time at the Jersey Shore where his grandchildren knew he could be counted on to keep his ear open for the ice cream man. He enjoyed traveling and especially appreciated a month in Hawaii each winter with his wife. He did the cryptogram daily and was always happy to play a game of cards or Scrabble. He liked to win; his grandchildren learned this quickly in life.  Beating Poppop at anything became a point of pride because he never let anyone win.

Floyd loved music and as a child dreamed of a machine that could play anything he wanted to hear.  This led to a jukebox in the basement of the Warrington home he lived in for 50 years and when he eventually got an iPod, he was astounded that his childhood wish had been granted.

Although Alzheimer's Disease took most of Floyd's memories, it did not diminish at all the memories his family has of him.  He remained gentle, kind and smiley until the very end.

Services will be private.  If desired, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) Online condolences may be offered at www.morellofuneralhome.com
