Obituary

With a heart full of trust in the beautiful promises of Christ, Fr. Sheehan, 92, closed his eyes in death on the 16th day of the month of May, 2024 at Holy Family Villa for Priests. Born in 1931 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Philadelphia, he was the son of Joseph A. and Margaret Ward Sheehan.

He attended the parish school of St. Timothy and a diocesan high school. He entered St. Charles Seminary at 17 and was ordained by John Cardinal O'Hara in May of 1959. Father was always delighted by the motions of the Holy Spirit and the holy Church. He was especially edified by the dramatic success of the marriage encounter movement, the Cursillo movement, the Pentecostal type of prayer groups that are active in so many parishes and the way Divine Mercy Sunday was so enthusiastically embraced. He was especially delighted by the zealous response by more than a million young people at the Pope's mass in Portugal for World Youth Day. It assures the church to expect a bright future. His fondest hope for all was peace and blessings for all. His strongest certitude was that through the eyes of our blessed Lord, there is only one race, the human race and only one family, the human family and the way to peace is not larger canons but all-embracing love.

Fr. Sheehan is survived by his sister, Sr. Joseph Margaret, S.S.J.; sister-in-law, Ellen Sheehan and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Fr. Sheehan was preceded in death by his brother, John Sheehan.
