Francis "Gino" Matraxia, 93, of Easton, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12, 2021 in Devon House, Allentown, PA.
He was born in Easton, PA, on June 10, 1928, a son of the late Philip and Rose (Indorato) Matraxia.
Gino was married to the love of his life, the former Shirley Warford, until her passing in December 2004, with whom he married at the United States Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, CA on May 30, 1951. He was a graduate of Easton Area High School, class of 1947 where he was active in art and theater. He attended Rider College, prior to entering the Navy in 1950 as a Dental Technician in Coronado, CA until 1954. He then returned to Easton (to raise his children close to their grandparents) and was proprietor of Lehigh Valley Barber Supply Co., until 1966, and became a barber stylist and the owner of Matraxia Hair Salon until his retirement at the age of 89. He was active with the AMBBA for many years as president, and established many lifelong barber friends through the association.
He will be remembered by his love of family, to which his father would remind him he was rich. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many he touched with his sincere kindness, great sense of humor, and haircuts.
Gino is survived by children: Marleen (Dave) Iobst of Williams Twp., Frances (Gary) Paczona of Whitehall, Philip of Bethlehem Twp., and Mary (Scott) Bloom of Nazareth; two sisters Jeanette (Terry) Royer of Holland Twp., NJ, and Micheline Burgio of Forks Twp.; grandchildren Ryan (Angela), David (Kate), Kevin (Cheyanne) and Lauren Iobst, Devon Bloom, and Carmen V. Ribaudo; great-grandhcildren Noah, Scarlett, and Viola Iobst. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his children Francis G, who died at infancy, Denise (Carmen P.) Ribaudo, who passed in 1991 (1994), and Steven who passed in 1997.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9 th & Lehigh Streets, Easton, PA. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Williams Twp. Please wear mask and strictly follow CDC Guidelines.
