Obituary

Dr. Frank Michelotti of Country Meadows in Bethlehem passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 7, 2018, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife, Anna Michelotti; his children, Marianne Hawk, Dr. Emil Michelotti and Dr. Gregory Michelotti; and his six grandchildren; Lauren and Allyson Hawk, Laura and Michael Michelotti, Lexi and Matthew Michelotti.

Frank was the son of Dr. Emilio Michelotti and Maria Campa in Rochester, New York. Frank received BA and BS degrees from Fordham College, a master's degree and cum laude honors in Organic Chemistry from Fordham University, and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from Polytechnic University of New York.

A brilliant scientist, his innovative ideas were enthusiastically pursued at each company fortunate enough to have him on their team, starting with Pfizer, then Inmont Chemical, and finally JT Baker Chemical Co, where he developed revolutionary new approaches for organic synthesis that formed the basis of highly recognized advances within both scientific and commercial communities.  These include the successful Bag-a-Bug Japanese beetle trap and the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to a researcher who followed Frank's pioneering work for water based catalysis using ruthenium and osmium metals.  He applied his insatiable appetite for innovation to co-found Advanced Chemical Technologies (ACT) for the development of new chemical formulations as coating strippers for the semiconductor industry, resulting in the robust international sales of these products.  For his countless accomplishments, Frank was honored as a Fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences in Outstanding Recognition for Scientific Achievement and Promotion of Science and a CESAR Fellow of Lehigh University. He received an Ashland Chemical Company Outstanding Performance Award.

Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as a member of the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, where he attended Sunday Mass weekly for 50 years. A celebration of life to follow.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas St., Easton, PA (Palmer Twp).
