George W. Leidy III, 61, of Easton passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital Bethlehem. Born in Easton on September 11, 1961 he was a son of the late Margaret Ann (Hockman) and George W. Leidy Jr. He received a specialized diploma in Emergency Services Technology from Northampton Community College, as well as completing various continuing education courses in areas of firefighting, water, ice & rope rescue, and emergency response at local community colleges. George served in the United States Marine Corp for 6 years and was honorably discharged. He worked at Twin County Cable (RCN) for 15 years as a microfiber installation technician. The following 25 years he pursued his passion for firefighting working his way up to Captain in the Easton Fire Department. He earned a Firefighter of the Year award in 1999.
George was a member of Easton Fish and Game Association, the Marine Corp League, and previously volunteered and helped lead PA Water Rescue. His love for adventure began in Boy Scouts and continued throughout his life traveling the states. His passion for scuba diving wrecks and underwater life took him to as far as Egypt. He regularly enjoyed motorcycling on his Harley, doing precision marksmanship competitions and metal detecting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Bonnie Jo (Lee) Leidy; son, Matthew Leidy and his fiancé, Christine Shely of VA; daughters, Crystal Leidy and her husband, Kevin Goff of Lancaster; Melissa Leidy and her husband, George Bright II of VA; grandchildren, Cooper, Aubree, and Penelope; brother, Roy Leidy and his companion, Diane Lilly of Northampton.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, Cory Leidy and his sister, Laurie Kuhl.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Road, Easton (Palmer Twp.) A Celebration of Life will take place at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Palmer following the graveside service, beginning at noon.
