Name: George P. Schmitz, 85, of Alpharetta, GA, formerly of Easton PA, passed away Thursday, August 13,2009 in the Embracing Hospice, Cumming, GA. Born: George was born July 20, 1924 in Clifton, NJ. He was the son of the late Peter and Minnie (Peter) Schmitz. Personal: He was married to the late Ruth (Cornish) Schmitz who passed away July 4, 1993. He graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in mechanical engineering. George worked at ITT Corp. for 35 years as a mechanical engineer in the Tube Division where he was involved in building manufacturing facilities throughout the United States, Spain, and Portugal. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he fought in the invasion of Normandy. In his younger years, George enjoyed being an active member on the Palmer Twp. Recreation Board. George was an active supporter and fan of Syracuse University football and basketball and he was an avid Eagles football fan. He was a proud grandfather of his four granddaughters. Memberships: He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Freemansburg Ave. & Stonescrossing Road, Palmer Twp. Survivors: George is survived by his son, Doug Schmitz of Endicott, NY; daughter, Carol Kautter wife of William J., Alpharetta, GA; sister, Louisa Pellack of Clifton, NJ; granddaughters, Amanda Schmitz, Melissa Schmitz, Nicole Kautter, and Michelle Kautter; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by sisters; Martha Greenburg and Margaret Pachuta, brothers; William and Harold Schmitz. Services: Calling hours will be held Monday evening August 17, 2009 from 6pm until 8 pm in the Morello Funeral Home, Inc. 3720 Nicholas St. Palmer Twp. and again on Tuesday August 18, 2009 from 11:00am until Noon in the Morello Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at Noon in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Northampton Memorial Shrine.
