George B. Skidmore 88, died January 3, 2010 at the Country Meadows Nursing Center in Bethlehem, PA. Mr. Skidmore was born March 23, 1921 in Mt. Vernon, NY to the late George A. Skidmore and the late Bernadine Hake Skidmore. He graduated from high school in 1938, and from the Newark College of Engineering in 1942 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Mr. Skidmore served in the US Army Air Force, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and Unit Citation for his service and was discharged as a Lieutenant. He served in the US Air Force Reserves until 1971, retiring as a major. After leaving active duty, Mr. Skidmore lived in Cranford, NJ until 2000, moving with his wife Margaret Schoeffler Skidmore to Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls, NJ until her death in 2008. They had been married for over 60 years. His interests included gardening, amateur radio, sailing, fishing, and writing stories and poetry. He enjoyed rigging and operating his own sailboat in the Raritan Bay. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineeers, the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen, and the Reserve Officers Assoication. He is survived by his sister Edith Bromm of Winter Haven, FL, son George K. Skidmore of Allentown, PA, daughters Katherine S. Martin and husband Robert of Canton, MI and Robin A. Sielski and husband Christopher of Asbury, NJ and four grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Green and Barbara Bucci. A memorial service will be held at the Renaissance Garden Room at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, NJ on February 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
