James David Davis, 87, passed away suddenly Sunday at his home on College Hill. Born in Easton's South Side, Mr. Davis graduated from Easton High School in 1953. He began his forty-year career in banking in January of 1954 as a runner for the Easton National Bank and Trust Company. After serving as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri from 1957 until 1959, Mr. Davis returned to ENBT where he worked his way from a teller to assistant branch manager, auditor, comptroller and, ultimately, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. After surviving five bank mergers, Mr. Davis retired from Wells Fargo in 1994. Not only did Mr. Davis find a career at ENBT, but he also met his wife of almost 60 years, the late Claire (Walsh) Davis, who also worked at the bank before resigning to raise her family; together they instilled in their family a love of the Jersey Shore, reading, and the occasional homemade pancake dinner.
The Chicago Cubs' 1945 National League pennant turned an 11-year-old Mr. Davis into an avid, but long-suffering Cub's fan until, much to his amazement, they won the World Series 71 years later in 2016. He enjoyed hobbies that included woodworking and do-it-yourself home improvement projects, but his greatest pleasure was time spent with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who loved him and his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
Mr. Davis is survived by his children, Lisa Ruffini (John) of Swarthmore, PA and David Davis (Howard) of Los Angeles, CA, and two grandchildren, Justin Ruffini of Brooklyn, NY and Kelly Ruffini of Philadelphia, PA.
