James F. Riley, Jr., 88, of Easton passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023. Born on March 4, 1934 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of the late James and Madeline (Schmid) Riley. He attended Easton High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, the YR Club of Easton and the Citizens Hose Club.
James was the owner and proprietor of Riley's Service Center, which he established in 1963 and continued serving customers and the community throughout his lifetime. He also worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Transportation Contractor, for which he received the Eagle Spirit Award for exemplary service in 2001. In the US Army, he was a member of the 3 rd Armored Division, 83 rd Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as a Master Welder and received recognition for Leadership in 1957. James also received the Easton Area Schoolmen's Association Businessman's Community Service Award in 1995.
On a personal note, James was an avid Indy Auto Racing fan. He had his own vineyard from which he made wine. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and cultivating his many fruit trees. His talent did not end with his green thumb, as he was a skilled woodworker and miniature train enthusiast. As a young man, he loved boating and waterskiing and in future years enjoyed being around his swimming pool with family and friends.
James is survived by his sons, James F. Riley, III and his wife, Joanne of Lansdale; Dr. John M. Riley and his wife, Patricia of Bushkill Twp.; daughters, Mancy A. Riley of Easton, Barbara A. Riley of Nazareth, Dianna J. Mamrak and her husband, Jeffrey of Plainfield Twp.; sisters Peggy and Linda; grandchildren, Mancy, Christa, Matthew, Rebecca, Megan, James, Rachel, John, Kiana, Jeffrey, and Shawna.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mancy (Finelli) Riley; sisters, Shirley and Eleanor; and brother, Francis.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.)
