James “Willie” Wohlbach, Jr., 89, was born in Easton, PA, and passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, leaving a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and faithful Catholic.
James was the beloved husband of Helen Wohlbach and the cherished father of Helen (Joel) Neuman, James, Herman (Michele) Wohlbach, Robertjohn (Kathy) Wohlbach, and Jill (Joseph) Markowski. He was a proud and loving grandfather to William, Rachel, Meredith, Jonathan, Alexandra, Cameron, and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marjorie (Grube) Wohlbach, and his sister, Nancy Hogan, who passed away earlier this month.
To his family, James was steady, loving, dependable, and deeply present. To his students, he was a teacher who helped guide and shape young lives. To the many young men he coached in baseball, he was more than a coach — he was a mentor who taught lessons that extended far beyond the field.
James believed in hard work. After teaching and coaching for thirty years in Easton, PA, he and his wife retired to Florida. He spent years working at Dodgertown, where he built mounds, laid sod, cared for the grounds, and poured himself into the work with pride and purpose. It suited him perfectly: baseball, hard work, and service, all in one place.
He enjoyed the simple, meaningful pleasures of life: cruising, playing quoits, watching NASCAR, reading, and being with his family. He also had a few unforgettable gifts: the ability to fall asleep at any time, in any place, under almost any circumstance; the firm belief that there was always room for dessert, often more than one; and the ability to expound on nearly any topic in a thoughtful, animated, almost theatrical manner. These small but unmistakable traits were classic James, and they will remain among the many memories his family will treasure.
James’ Catholic faith was reflected in the way he lived: through devotion to family, service to others, humility, perseverance, and love. His legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren, in the students he taught, in the players he coached, and in the many lives made better by his presence.
