Obituary

Jeffery Edward Horne passed away on August 26, 2024 in Easton, PA, of natural causes. Jeff was born in Orange, NJ, on June 4,1954, to the late Edward and Evelynn (McCann) Horne, who taught him compassion and encouraged his lifelong interests in politics and world culture. These lessons and interests led Jeff to serve his nation upon graduating from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin, NJ. In 1972, he joined the Navy, hoping to see the world. He served honorably until 1976. Although he enjoyed his time with the Navy, Jeff's dream of seeing the world and learning about different cultures still needed to be fulfilled. Once Jeff had separated from service, he began his studies at Saint Peter's University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sociology in 1980. He was employed with Chubb North America four years later, working his way up the ladder. He eventually retired as a senior programmer and analyst in 1996. It was during this time that he began traveling the world. He especially enjoyed skiing the Alps in Europe; however, one of his favorite skiing experiences happened in a Vermont ski lodge. Vacationing alone, he was eating breakfast when an older woman approached the table asking to join him. They had a very enjoyable conversation, and when she excused herself, he realized that he had been eating with Maria von Trapp herself. In addition to his passion for culture and his enjoyment of skiing, Jeff was also very creative, often writing deeply thought poems about life, love, and adventure.

Jeff met the love of his life, Shen Zuandi, who lived in China. While their relationship blossomed long distance, Jeff visited China, where they were married in 2001. It didn't take long for Jeff to fall in love with the country of China and its people. He lived there for some time, teaching English, which he considered one of the most enjoyable experiences of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Zuandi Shen; brother-in-law, Thomas Petrillo; nieces Tracey Ziebro and Toni Hopkins; nephew Nicholas Petrillo; and multiple great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Ann Petrillo, and his brother, Kevin Francis Horne.

Jeff will always be remembered for his compassion for all people, his political conversations, his love of his family, his profound passion for culture, and his sense of humor.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.). Online condolences maybe made at www.morellofuneralhome.com
