John E. Gum, 90, of Palmer Twp., PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in his home. Born: John was born on July 23, 1923 in Nazareth, PA, a son of the late Geary and Hattie (Minnich) Gum. Personal: John was the husband of Kathryn (Sharkey) Gum with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage last March 23rd. He was a graduate of Kutztown High School, class of 1941. He served in the US Army during World War II with the 11th Airborne Unit in the South Pacific. He worked at Schaibles Bakery, from where he retired. Memberships: John was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, Palmer Twp. Survivors: In addition to his wife, John is survived by a daughter Carol Daneels of Palmer Twp.; a son Jack Gum and his wife Lois, and their daughters Melinda and Lora; a brother Donald of Mississippi; sisters Mildred Miller and Mae Kline, both of Nazareth. He was preceded in death by a brother Geary, and a sister Pearl. Services: Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp.
