Dr. Joseph P. Hopkins, 84, of Palmer Twp., PA, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in St. Luke's Hospice House.

Joseph was born in Scranton, PA, a son of the late Patrick and Anna (Ferguson) Hopkins.

Joseph was married to the former Maureen E. Walsh, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage last June 30. He was a graduate of St. Ann's High School, Scranton, PA; and graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. He also graduated from Fordham University, New York, NY with a Master's degree in Social Work. He received his doctoral degree in Psychiatric Social Work from Catholic University in Washington, DC. Joseph was employed by the Veteran's Administration Hospitals in Maryland, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He co-founded the Warren County Guidance Center in Belvedere, NJ and was owner/administrator of the Blough Nursing Home in Bethlehem, PA. He served in the US Air Force and Reserves, and obtained the rank of Captain.

Joseph was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife Maureen, Joseph is survived by a daughter Michele Cohn and husband Peter; grandchildren Kira and Nicholas of Waltham, MA, and his sister, Sister Anine Hopkins, IHM; and many cousins in the Scranton area.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am in St. Jane Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Palmer Twp. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
