Lawrence C. "Larry" Sparta, 79, of Forks Township and previously of Palmer Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2024 with his loving wife by his side. Born on December 11, 1944 in Easton he was raised by his late mother, Irene (Farina) Scheetz, her husband Girard Scheetz, and his late grandparents Anthony and Irene Viola Farina. Larry graduated from Easton High School in 1962 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1965-1967. His service included one year in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, and 12th Infantry Recon Platoon. He earned a number of service and Vietnam campaign medals, including the combat infantry badge.
Larry was employed by Ingersoll Rand for 20 years as a technical writer. He later joined PPL as the School Energy Education Advisory Council and retired from PPL as the Community Relations Director. He retired after 21 years. Among his accomplishments at PPL he was appointed to the Adult Literacy Board by Governor's Rendell and Ridge. He also served on the Edison Electric Institute Relations Board based in Washington, D.C.
His passions in life were reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, good conversation and horse racing. He was especially proud of being in a partnership that owned several thoroughbred race horses.
Larry married Jane Breiner and over the last 48 years they built a wonderful life together. He always professed their love and respect for each other, that it never waned and in fact, grew stronger over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Judy (Breiner) Canone; brothers-in-law, David Breiner and his wife, Ann; Dan Briener and his wife Charlene; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy (Breiner) Williams; brother-in-law, Joseph Canone, Sr.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00AM to 10:30AM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton (Palmer Twp.) followed by a funeral service. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Twp. Memorial contributions in Larry's name may be made to the Center for Animal Welfare, 1165 Island Park Rd., Easton, PA 18042.
