Obituary

Name: Leo (Lee) John Sokol, passed away on Wednesday, November 16th in Phoebe Nursing Home in Allentown, PA at the age of 80. Born: Lee was born in Alpha, NJ, a son of the late Mayor Leo Sokolowski and mother Rose Sokolowski also of Alpha. Lee had been married to his beloved wife Lucia A. Guadagnino Sokol of Easton, PA for 58 years. Personal: Lee graduated from Phillipsburg High School, class of 1950 and Lafayette College, class of 1955. Out of college, he was a ROTC graduate and assigned to Ft. Benning, Georgia. From there he was assigned to the Pacific command at Ft. Shafter Oahu Hawaii where he served as Special Operations Officer and was sent to the Philippines as member of the U.S. Embassy in Manila. He was a Green Beret Paratrooper and graduate of The Airborne School, The Command and General Staff College and The War College. Among his special achievements was a medal given to him for The Legion of Merit. Lee was later re-assigned as an Army Reservist with his last command as training brigade in Dallas, Texas. He retired as a full bird Colonel with 38 years of service. Consecutively in civilian life, Lee joined Hercules Inc., in Wilmington, DE where he served 36 years in various Sales Marketing Positions. One of his highest achievements was as team leader converting the company Frito-Lay in Dallas, Texas to plastic film for packaging of all their snack foods. Memberships: Lee was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Orefield, PA. Survivors: In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Timothy J. Sokol and his wife Linda of South Bend, IN, James P. Sokol and his wife Michelle of Plano, TX; daughter Kimberly Fritz-Platner of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren Kyle Fritz, Kevin Fritz, Preston Sokol, Ruth Ann Sokol, Alex Sokol, and Caroline Sokol. Services: Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, PA 18069. Memorial Contributions: Contributions in Leos memory may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of his grandson, Kevin Fritz.
