Louanne Barberie Alemany, formerly of West Brookfield and Provincetown, died peacefully in her home in Easton, PA on July 13, 2024 surrounded by her family and beloved canine companion, Mia. She reached the rich age of 93. Louanne is survived by her dear sister, Marguerite Saro, sons, Jason and wife, Rachel; Joshua and wife, Mindy; and her three grandchildren, Caleb, Jonah and Anabel. She was pre-deceased by her husband, James Costen Alemany and sister, Francis Barberie.
Before moving to College Hill in Easton in 2021, Louanne lived on Cape Cod in Provincetown MA. Three generations of Alemany children, beginning with Louanne's husband "Jimmy", her own children, Jason and Joshua, and her grandsons, Caleb and Joanah, all grew up in the family's 175-year-old cottage from 1941 to 2020. Louanne's love for Provincetown and her beach community is the aspect of her life that defines her best – a love of reading and drinking coffee (or wine) while gazing out at the day's harbor activities, chatting across the jetty with neighbors, walking Mia along the beach and stopping to say hello to every other dog (and owner) along the way, entertaining on the deck during 4th of July or Carnival, and hosting epic dinner parties for more people than should have been able to fit in her little beach cottage. Living in Provincetown over the many years was her truest source of joy and the origin of her closest friendships.
Louanne was a remarkable, accomplished professional who graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1953 with a degree in Textile Engineering and Fashion Design. Her career spanned decades in NYC apparel with companies such as Waldes Koh-I-Noor, Dan River Mills, Catalina, White Stag and Ware Knitters before opening an independent design firm, Stone Mill Studios in Ware Massachusetts. The latter stage of her career before finally retiring at age 85 was spent passionately designing children's clothing, which proved to be a boon for her grandchildren.
No memorial is planned at this time. A private gathering will be held in the fall.
