Obituary

Madeline Margherita Latini Presto, 89, of Palmer Twp, Pa. went home to join her loved ones on Sunday Feb. 5, 2012 in Easton, Pa. Born: On June 27, 1922 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Marino and Francesca Guiffrida Latini. Personal: Madeline graduated from Lawrence High School and was one of the first government girls to go to Washington, D.C. during WWII. She was assigned to the Internal Security and War Department and Defense Department at the Pentagon. She became the executive assistant at the Pentagon to several high ranking military officials including 4 star General Bryan. She had FBI clearance which enabled her to maintain correspondence for two scientists whom, she later learned were part of the Manhattan Project. During the war she met and subsequently married her late husband Phillip F. Presto of Easton, Pa. in 1948. They relocated to Easton, Pa. where she made her home for the last 64 years. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and had two children and two grandchildren. Madeline worked as a secretary to the Head of the Engineering Department at Lafayette College until she had her children. When she returned to the workforce she was employed as an executive assistant to the superintendent of the Easton Area School District. She then reentered the federal employee workforce as a claims representative for the Easton Social Security, Department of HHS where she worked until she retired in 1982. After retiring, Madeline and her husband Phillip enjoyed spending the winters in IndiaAtlantic Florida and the spring thru fall in Easton as well as travelling to see many sites and attend family events. She loved visiting with her wonderful grandchildren, her Easton nieces and nephews and Lenas Beverly, Mass cousins. Throughout her life Madeline (affectionately known as Madge or Lena) was active, full of life, giving and inspiring others in numerous ways. She was involved in community affairs including being President of the Taylor School PTA, President of Forks Township PTA, President of the Easton Area High School PTA, Pa. State President of PTA, and awarded a lifetime membership to the Pa PTA and became the bylaw chairman. She was a member of the 4th degree Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Sodality, IndiaAtlantic Florida Palm Colony Club Social Committee, member and fund raising committee for UOTS (United Order True Sisters Inc - a cancer service organization in IndiaAtlantic, Fla.) to mention a few. She was an excellent seamstress who loved design, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid gardener with a specialty in cultivation of roses. She loved travelling, dancing and singing and was well known for her productions and directions of theatrical mini shows for the social clubs she was involved in. Her creativity was complemented by a husband who shared in entertaining people on and off stage and was happy to be in her casts as lead or supporting actor. She is known for her cheerfulness, willingness to help anyone and her love of life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors: Madeline is survived by a daughter Kathryn Teresa Presto of Easton, Pa. and a son Michael Phillip Presto and his wife Kathy Breckons Presto of Manhattan, NY and two grandchildren Alexandra Nicole and Gillian Marie Presto. Madeline is preceded in death by her husband Phillip Frank Presto, one sister Rose Latini Laurin and two step sisters (Catherine Mazzaglia and Teresa Mazzaglia LaRosa). Services: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also on Thursday from 8:45 am to 9:45 am in the Morello Funeral Home, Inc. 3720 Nicholas Street, Palmer Twp, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am in St. Anthonys Roman Catholic Church, 9th and Lehigh St in Easton, Pa. Interment will be in St. Anthonys Cemetery in Williams Twp, Pa.
