Obituary

Mario Domenico Ianni, 68, of Pen Argyl, PA, passed away on August 10, 2020, at home surrounded by family.

Mario was born in Camp Kilmer, NJ, a son of the late Gennaro Domenico and Margaret Evaughn (Grantz) Ianni.

Mario was married to the former Melinda J. Bell, with whom he celebrated 33 years of marriage last March. He was a graduate of Edison High School, class of 1970. He received a full wrestling scholarship to Rider College, now known as Rider University, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1975. Mario was a Vice President of M/J Mechanical Services Inc. since 1978.

Mario attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pen Argyl. He was inducted into both the Edison High School Hall of Fame and the Rider University Hall of Fame. Rider Coach Barry Burtnett stated that "Mario Ianni put Rider Wrestling on the map." After his induction into Rider's Hall of Fame in 2012, Mario himself became an active member on the Hall of Fame Committee.

A loving father and mentor, Mario coached midget wrestling, Plainfield Township baseball, and Plainfield Township girls' softball. He was an avid follower of high school and collegiate wrestling. Also, an accomplished musician, Mario played both trumpet and accordion, the latter into his later years. He found joy in bird watching, hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail, and amateur astronomy. He often broke out the telescope to share his passion with friends and family on the backyard deck.

In addition to his wife, Mario is survived by his son Wes G. Ianni and wife Jaclyn of Portland, OR; his daughter Maelynn D. Ianni of Pen Argyl; his sisters Evaughn Musso and husband Joe of Coopersburg, Cheryl Sawula and husband Paul of Edison, NJ; his brothers Daniel Ianni and wife Barbara of Chillicothe, OH, Mark Ianni and wife Francia of Edison, NJ, David Ianni and wife Patty of Pen Argyl, Darryl Ianni and wife Katie of North San Juan, CA; a sister-in-law Karen Bell Franz and Adolph Granato of Spring, TX; a brother-in-law Charles Bell and wife Beverly of Edison, NJ; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
