Obituary

Mary Lou A. Schuler, 74, of Palmer Twp. passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024 in her home.
She was born on May 20, 1949 in Bethlehem, PA and was the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes
(Magyar) Ruyak. Mary Lou graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School with honors and
earned her bachelor's degree in English Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As an English Teacher, she first taught at Saucon Valley H.S. then at Agat Middle School in Guam where she also hosted an English Arts TV program for the Diocese of Agana as she accompanied her Naval Officer husband, John, overseas. She then taught at Lynnhaven Junior HS in VA Beach. Mary Lou was selfless with her time as she volunteered at the Navy Relief Society and Volunteer Center of Fairfax Cty, VA where she received an award for the number of hours she served. In her free time, she loved to grow flowers and travel with her husband.

Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John J. Schuler; sister, Carole Ruyak (David
Marthens) of Purcellville, VA: brother-in-law, Ladislav Varga of Bethlehem, PA; nephew, Charles Varga
of Fairfax, VA; and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Varga.

A calling hour will be held, Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 1st Street, Bethlehem, PA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will be on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newton, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Marylou's name to National MS Society, 30 South 17th Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 1st Street, Bethlehem, PA 18020.
