Name: Melvene Haffner, 70, of Easton, PA passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 in the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Lukes. Born: Melvene was born on September 10, 1939 in West Easton, PA, a daughter of the late Melvin M. and Helen Hutnik Thatcher. Personal: Melvene retired in 2002 from First Union Bank. Prior to that she worked as a clothing inspector for Strongwear Pants Co., and as a payroll clerk for SHR Enterprises. Memberships: Melvene was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, and was formerly a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Easton. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and she volunteered for many years at Holy Ghost Church Ladies Auxiliary, and she played girls basketball for Wilson High School, where she graduated in the class of 1957. Survivors: Melvene is survived by sons Joseph Haffner Jr. of Phillipsburg, NJ, and Stephen Haffner of Zionsville, PA, daughters Darlene Yost of Walnutport, PA and Melvene Thatcher of West Easton, PA, a brother Donald Thatcher of Williams Twp., PA, and 11 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Haffner, Sr. Services: Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 10:15 am with a Parastas service at 10:15 am in the Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton PA (Palmer Twp.). A Divine Liturgy will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 315 4th Street, West Easton, PA. Interment will be at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
