Orville E. Roberts, 89, of Stockertown, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2023, in his home, surrounded by family.  Born on August 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Ellis and Mae (Mengel) Roberts.  Orville grew up in the Valley Forge area, enjoying cars and hunting, and was a member of several hunting clubs.   He was an avid outdoorsman most of his life.  Orville played softball until the age of 62 and enjoyed watching baseball and football.

Orville served in the United States Army where he began to cut his fellow servicemen's hair.  This sparked an interest in the art of barbering, and upon his honorable discharge, he attended barber school.  Orville (known to most as Mort) continued to cut hair for young and old alike until after his 88th birthday.    He volunteered many hours and made house calls for those who were homebound.

Mort had a very strong work ethic and had many skills.  In 1969, he began a long career as a camp ranger for The Girl Scouts of Philadelphia.  He worked in this role until his retirement in 1998.

Mort loved Jesus and served in many different churches in his lifetime, in the roll of deacon, elder, song leader and choir member.  Most recently, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bethlehem Twp, where he was a choir member, part of the care ministry, and coffee ministry.  He was also the pastors barber and made monthly trips to the church to care for the pastoral staff. Mort was known for his gentle spirit, kind words, and strong convictions.

Orville is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Barbara (Long) Roberts. His surviving family includes his sister Cathy Nichols, wife of Tom, Valley Forge, PA.   His son, Henry E. Kern, wife of David, great grandson Noel; Bethany Snavely, wife of Aaron, great grandchildren, Adelaide, Enoch, and Hailee; Daughter Cynthia Wynn Roberts wife of Anita Manero, Collegeville, PA; Step daughter Sherry Budd wife of Joe, Boca Raton FL; grandson Zachary Budd husband of Lindsey, great grandchildren Grayson and Samuel; Granddaughter Cassandra Bussey wife of Paul; grandson Jason; Step son Joel Dewey husband of Melanie, Niles, MI.  Granddaughter Shaye Smithberger, wife of Mark, and grandson Aaron.

In addition to his parents, Orville was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois (Gable) Roberts, of 37 years; sister, Eva Devlin; and brother, Henry Roberts.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, 5300 Green Pond Road, Easton, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA
