Name: Peter Phillips, jazz and classical piano player, bass trombonist and composer, passed away February 13, 2014 at the VNA Hospice of Monroe County. Born: Born in Pittsfield, MA on April 29, 1941 to the late Webb Phillips and Myrtle Garcelon Phillips, he resided in several places including Delaware Water Gap, PA and New York, NY. Personal: Peter studied piano and bass trombone at the Eastman School of Music, and enjoyed a varied musical career as a conductor of Broadway musicals, studio musician, and classical and jazz pianist. Highlights of his career include Kai Winding, Herbie Hancock, the Bernstein Mass, Liza Minnelli, the Phillip Glass Ensemble, and many friends and jazz musicians in the Poconos. Peter will be remembered for his hungry, inquiring mind, encyclopedic knowledge of music and history, enthusiasm for travel and adventure, sense of humor, and deep, abiding love for his family. Survivors: Peter was the beloved husband of Laurie Harriton and father of Helen Honey, Britta Phillips, Inga Goldstein and Webb Phillips. He leaves behind four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
