Obituary

Peter J. Tomaino, 77, of Easton, PA, passed away the evening of February 6, 2020 at his home.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Peter and Rose Tomaino.  He was married to Kathleen (Wilson), with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage last June. He was a graduate of Long Branch High School and Murray State University in Kentucky.  At Murray State, he played baseball and tennis.  Pete was a distinguished English teacher for Phillipsburg High School for 38 years, where he was a Class Advisor for Gifted and Talented, Academic Teams and the Multi-Cultural Club.  He was also well known for his leadership for Olympics of the Mind.  Pete held various head and assistant coaching positions including football at PCHS and PHS; basketball at PHS, NCC and Lafayette and tennis at PHS.  Most notable was the Head Tennis coach at Lafayette College for 25 years including an undefeated team (14-0) in 1983, ending with a dedication of the tennis scoreboard in his honor in 2017.

Peter was an advocate for Parkinson's research and support.  The family participated in many of the MJF Unity Walks in NYC (Go Team PJT!).  Pete was presented with the lifetime achievement award for education in 2017 and was instrumental in the Memorial Dedication stone in honor of Phillipsburg High School retired teachers.  He was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by a son Dean A. Tomaino and wife Nicole of Whitehouse Station, NJ; daughter Tracy A. Wursta and husband Sean of Allentown, PA; grandchildren Paige, Avery, Brooke, Claire and niece Ahnika.  He is preceded in death by a son Marc A. Tomaino.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp).  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 am in St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 4049 Hartley Avenue, Palmer Twp., PA. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
