Richard "Dick" James Cariss, 78, passed away on Saturday, June 26, at home.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of Mr. James W. Cariss and Mrs. Viola M. (McWhinney) Cariss.

He was the husband of Lois Jane (Weber) Cariss. They shared almost 55 years of marriage together.

He graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1961 and from Bloomfield College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He started his career as a trainee with the All State Insurance Company in Murray Hill, NJ. He retired from Total Lubricants USA in 2008, serving as the Northeast Sales Manager for over 30 years. After retirement, he spent 9 years as a substitute teacher in special needs classrooms and served as president for his homeowner's association.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Phillipsburg, NJ. He volunteered at and supported fundraising efforts for The Arc of Warren County for many years. An avid sports fan his entire life, he enjoyed watching the New York Mets, Rangers, and Giants in person and on television any chance he got.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, a daughter, Cindy Lutz and husband JD; a son, Scott Cariss and wife, Julie; and five grandchildren: Alexandra Lutz, Samantha Lutz, Jimmy Lutz, Maxwell Cariss, and Adeline Cariss. A brother, Donald Cariss, and wife Karen; and two nephews, Mark Cariss and David Cariss.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, at 3pm at the First Baptist Church, 810 Red School Lane, Phillipsburg, NJ. Visitation will be held beginning 1:30pm until the start of the service at 3pm.
