Salvatore S. Merlo, 97, of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Saturday, August, 20, 2016 in his home.
Salvatore was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, a son of the late Salvatore and Rose (Mugavero) Merlo.
Salvatore was married to the former Mary Presto before her passing in 2015. He was a butcher for Peoples Market and later Pantry Pride, before retiring in 1984. Salvatore was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School. He served in the US Army during World War II. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary to many different destinations.
Salvatore was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the YMCA.
Salvatore is survived by brothers-in-law Vince Presto of Palmer Twp., Joseph Presto and wife Sue of Palmer Twp., Anthony Presto and wife Enrica of Totowa, NJ; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an additional calling hour on Thursday from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & Lehigh Streets, Easton, PA. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Twp.
