Obituary

Samuel P. Alercia, 92, of Easton, PA, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2016 in Easton Hospital.

Samuel was born in Easton, PA, a son of the late Gaetano and Dominica (Oieni) Alercia.

Samuel was married to the former Grace Sanguedohe, with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage last April 24. He took part in Normandy Invasion (D-Day+2). He glided in behind enemy lines where he served in US Army as a Corporal Technician 5th Grade Medic. Sam worked at Ingersol Rand Co. in NJ and owned his own linoleum tile business before pursuing his license to become a Barber. He worked as a barber on Easton College Hill and then opened and owned his own Barber Shop in the 800 Block of Spring Garden Street in Eastons West Ward. Sam was most proud when he was awarded his Easton High School Diploma in 2012, which was given to servicemen who left school to go into the Armed Services. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was very proud of his families accomplishments in life. Sam was a very mild spoken man. He enjoyed bowling and golf.

Samuel was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW.

In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by a daughter Sandra Alercia Vulcano a member of Easton City Council and husband Pat; a granddaughter Michele Vulcano Hall and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren Evan Rocco Hall and Ava Grace Hall; and a brother Carl Alercia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter Toni Ann Alercia, who passed in 1957; his sisters Catherine Castronuova, Josephine Testa, Mary Mammano; brothers Joseph and Anthony Alercia.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp.) A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th and Lehigh Streets, Easton. Interment will be in St. Anthonys Cemetery, Williams Twp., PA.
