Scott Lee Young, Gifted Guitarist and Song Writer, Passed Away

Scott Lee Young, gifted musician, philosopher, and extraordinary human being, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at his home in Palmer Township, Pennsylvania, due to a long-term illness. His family was at his side. He was 60.

A student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Scott was an exceptionally talented guitarist, bassist, and songwriter. His original music, played on several radio stations throughout the region, was influenced by progressive rock, blues, and jazzit is sophisticated and sweet, complex and accessible, and through it, his intellect and generous heart shone.

Scott, known to many as Sonny, was a member of several rock, progressive rock, and jazz bands that performed throughout the northeast over the past 40 years, including Mr. Weet, Paragon, Outpost, PokerFace, Displaced Peoples, and Starr. He was invited to perform his original music at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

While in Boston, Scott studied at the Shim Gum Do Academy for Zen Martial Arts where he achieved a fourth degree black belt in Korean Swordsmanship and also studied other martial arts. In the Lehigh Valley, he spent time at the Blue Mountain ZenDo.

Scott was a talented master craftsman often called upon to tackle intricate and artistic building projects including custom homes, angular roof systems, and specialty projects such as elaborate stairways, sheds, and decks.

Scott could often be found engaging in philosophical and spiritual discussions about life and the universe. He also spent time touring by bike with friends and flying his radio-controlled helicopters, some as long as five feet. He was frequently invited to demonstrate challenging maneuvers and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Radio Control Society and the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary, and her spouse, Lisa; grandson, Jack; mother, Marjorie; father, Bruce; sisters, Crystal, Donel, and Penny; and extended family.

A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, August 7, 3:00-6:00 pm, at Porters Pub, located at 700 Northampton Street, Easton, Pennsylvania, a place that Scott performed at regularly throughout the years.
