Name: Joseph P. Verenna, Sr. 92 of Forks Twp., passed away Thursday January 5, 2012 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro. Born: He was born on May 30, 1919 in Phillipsburg, NJ son of the late Carmello and Natalie Stefano Verenna. Personal: Joe was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years Josephine (Regina) Verenna in 1996 and his second wife Barbara (Bederski) Verenna in 2001. He was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School class of 1937. Joseph served our country in the US Air Force during WWII. Joe was very active in his community and throughout including volunteering for Easton Hospital for many years. Joe was a true entrepreneur, owning several businesses including Ebners Shop-A-Rama in Alpha, NJ, Grand National Slot Car Racing in Phillipsburg, Country Card Centers in Easton, Bloomsbury, Washington, Belvidere and Pen Argyl, and Quik Pix Photo Center in Phillipsburg which was the first 1 hour photo center in the entire area. He was also the owner of several standard bred racing horses and licensed to race in 5 states throughout many years. Joe was co-owner of NIA Baking in Easton, Phillipsburg News Agency, Filmore Shop, Flavorland and Village Shops and car agencies in Mt. Carmel, Clinton and Quakertown. Joe loved and was loved by all, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed a long life full of happiness, filled with family, great friends and occasions. Memberships: Joe was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Easton. He also was a member of and founder of IRMA Independent Retail Merchants Association, member of American Legion Post 611, Senior Citizens Organization, former member and past Lt. Governor and President of Phillipsburg Kiwanis Club, Elks Club in Easton and Bangor and the Pomfret Club in Easton. Survivors: Joe is survived by his dear friend and companion Mary Schmidt of Whitehall, his daughter Natalie Schumacher and husband Carl of Easton; sons, Joseph Verenna, Jr. and wife Patti of Bethlehem Twp., Carmen Verenna and wife Kate of Forks Twp.; step-daughter Cindy Dickerson and husband Bill of Palmer Twp., grandchildren Daniel, David, Eric, Gabriel, Thomas, Carl Jr. (CJ), Shannon and great-grandchildren Michael, David, Tre, Aniya, Theia and Sara. Joe is preceded in death by grandson Carmen Jr., sisters Anna Verenna and Mary Faulk, brother Sam Verenna, step-sister Mary Fatta and step-brother Anthony Volpe. Services: Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and Tuesday morning from 9:00am until 10:00am in the Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas St. Palmer Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30am in the church, 9th and Lehigh Streets in Easton. Entombment will be in St. Anthonys Cemetery, Williams Twp. Memorial Contributions: Contributions may be made to the New Jersey District of Kiwanis International, 120 Morris Ave. Summit, NJ 07901 in memory of Joe.
