Obituary

Stanley John Drabic, coconut lover, ladies' man, polka prince and professional 'wood-butcher' died peacefully the morning of April 17, 2019 holding his best friends hand.

Stanley left Johnstown, PA as a young teen to make a better life for himself.  He travelled to NYC and became a bellhop before joining the USMC because they give you 'three hots and cot'.  While defending Uncle Sam, he aspired to be a 'wood-butcher' after the war was over while his fellow marines dreamed of being Cab Calloway spin offs.

After the service, he learned the art of cabinet making and quickly began fulfilling his dream of becoming a carpenter.  First as an apprentice, to full journeyman, to leading large jobs such as the Schuylkill Expressway and building houses.  His love for building lasted well beyond his working years and in fact, was a lifelong hobby.  Stanley was actively building up to the age of 92 years old and claimed he never worked a day in his life based on the love of what he did.

Stanley loved dancing to the likes of the Glen Miller Orchestra, Cab Calloway, and the Dorsey brothers.  He loved to waltz, but cutting a rug to any polka song was his favorite.

Stanley took fashion cues from no one.  His signature everyday look was all his: a white undershirt, a plaid pocketed button down, jeans worn well above the navel and sold exclusively at Kmart or Wal-Mart, and a pair of white 'bo-bo's' or work boots with a baseball cap to round out the look.

Stanley was fascinated by the advance in technology and would routinely ask us to show him something by 'punching it into the Google'.  Although he fancied using technology, he was a disaster.  His cell phone and TV remote were constantly not working from fiddling with the buttons.

He had a life-long love affair eating coconut, anything strawberry related, sweet desserts, galumpki's, drinking too much beer at times, hoarding canned goods (peas and beets anyone?) and saving every grocery store receipt and used tissue known to man.

He excelled at gardening, killing pigeons with bb guns, outsmarting squirrels, watching Fox news, burning food and reusing paper towels.

Stanley loved hunting well into his latter years and would still join his son Joseph during the season.

He is survived by his biological daughter Stacey, his two stepsons Jerry McRoberts and Joseph Assise III, and his three grandchildren, Joseph, Anthony and Jonathon (who was his very best friend and partner in crime).

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). Online condolences may be offered at www.morellofuneralhome.com .
