Obituary

Name: Wallace J. Oscar Canone, 89, of Bethlehem formerly of Easton, passed away on Wednesday, January 4th. Born: Oscar was born on July 15, 1922 in Easton, PA, a son of the late Elias and Rosemary Wardi Ruday Canone. Personal: He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Christina Haddad Canone. In his early 20s, Oscar was a bartender for several clubs and taverns in the downtown Easton area, and later worked for the former Lehigh Foundry Corp. in Easton. Then, for over half a century, he was a small business owner, where he owned and operated Oscars Hoagies, a popular eatery located in the heart of the Historic District in downtown Easton. Originally a grocery store, Oscars business endured for 53 years, closing its doors in 2007. His shop stood as a favorite meeting place and social gathering for many in the community. And through the years, he and his wife, Christina, welcomed and entertained visiting relatives and friends from many places, particularly, Providence, Rhode Island, Florida, Canada, and from abroad, Lebanon and Australia. Memberships: Oscar was a member of Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church. Survivors: Oscar is survived by his sons Joseph Canone and his wife Judy of Palmer Twp., Sam Canone and his companion Virginia of Salisbury Twp., James Canone of Easton; daughter Rosemary Canone of Bethlehem, with whom he resided; grandchildren Joseph Canone and his wife Letizia of Palmer Twp., Jennifer Canone and her companion Joseph Sheehy of Albany, NY; and a great-grandchild Alyssa. He is preceded in death by his sisters Cowcab Badway, Catherine Isaac, Jean Bentz; brothers Arthur and Edward Canone. Services: Calling hours will be held on Friday in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Prayer of Incense at 8:00 pm, an additional calling hour will be held on Saturday from 8:15 am to 9:15 am in Morello Funeral Home, Inc., 3720 Nicholas Street, Easton, PA (Palmer Twp). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 4th & Ferry Streets, Easton, PA. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorial Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions in Oscars memory may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 55 South 4th Street, Easton, PA 18042.
