Obituary

Wayne Martin Stocker, 72 formerly of Easton, PA passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 in his home in Bethlehem surrounded by his wife, loving family and friends. He was the son of late Charles and Jennie (DiFede) Stocker.

Wayne was married to Bonnie Amato, his partner of 45 years.  He was a graduate of Easton High School, Class of 1964, and served as a Sargent in the US Marine Corp from December 1965 – February 1969, stationed on the Aircraft Carrier Essex CVS-9.  As one of his highlights on his tour of duty, the Essex picked up the crew of The Apollo 7 Spacecraft that was out at sea carrying Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele, and Walter Cunningham.   After his discharge from the service he became an electrician by trade for the IBEW 367 as a Journeyman Wireman.  After high school, Wayne worked in the Ingersoll-Rand Rock Drill Division as a Machinist. In 1975 he became a Service Technician promoting to a Service Supervisor for the Ingersoll-Rand Turbo Division where he supervised the installation and start-up of gas turbines and related oil platform machinery.  After extensive world travel with the Turbo Division, he transferred to The Air Compressor Group as a Senior Service Engineer and later promoted to the N.E. Regional Service Manager of that group.  In 2003, he transferred to the Davidson, NC headquarters as a Training Instructor and worked extensively with the PBM (Plastic Blow Molding) product line. He was not only a great teacher but a mentor to many of his co-workers. Wayne retired after 33 years with Ingersoll-Rand in 2008 only to start his own compressor consulting business and again traveled the world supervising gas process installations and overhauls. In December of 2016, he decided to take a trip around the world in 5 days to accomplish one of his Bucket List items. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February 2017 and never returned to what he loved to do. Customer service was Wayne's passion where his skills were his specialty. A favorite quote from a coworker and friend referring to Wayne is a Japanese proverb: "Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher".

Wayne was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where he served on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the FLEAS Club and the Young Republican Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Trisha Lee Griggs of Georgia (husband Roy, and grandson Tanner Huegel); a son Matthew Stocker (wife Beth and their children Nathan and Madelyn); a brother-in-law Pete Amato; sisters-in-law Tina Amato and husband Dan, Lori Ernst and husband Mike; nieces and nephews Elena Neith, Justin Ernst, Michael Amato and Melanie Brady and 7 great-nieces and nephews.
