Obituary

Cherie Kavanaugh, 94, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024. Born on April 5, 1930, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Florance (Barnes) Slater.

After graduation in 1947, Cherie worked at LVRR in Bethlehem until 1955 as clerical staff. After raising her children, she worked in the office at Dixie in Wilson Borough and later for Palmer Township as Assistant Zoning Officer and Zoning Officer until retirement. Post retirement, she served on the Zoning Hearing Board in Palmer Twp. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 20 years, not only providing nutritious meals but companionship.

Cherie loved the strategic challenge of Mahjong and often gathered with friends for lively games filled with laughter. She was also an avid traveler, appreciating the beauty of the world and embracing new experiences. She was a true Penn State Football fan, always watching their games.

Cherie is survived by her son, Robert Kavanaugh; her daughter, Susan Fissel and her husband, Jack; her cherished grandchild, Becky Fissel; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cherie was predeceased by her husband, Robert Kavanaugh; sisters, Mary Dietzel, Dorothy Guzior, Beverly Slater, Geraldine Warner; and brothers, Fred and Don Slater.

The family would like to express a special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Country Meadows Forks, especially Connections. Your care for Cherie was appreciated greatly.
